We are actively recruiting for a major Automotive client in the Detroit area.

 

Summary:

The Innovation Technologist will be responsible for leading the technology component of the Innovation Work stream, including overall definition and specification of innovation stream outputs.​  The right candidate will have a good combination of management experience along with a hands-on attitude.​ This person works closely with the Creative, User Experience, Project Management, QA departments and high level stakeholders within the company to oversee the any application development as well as providing cutting edge insights into general market and automotive technology insights.

 

This position demands strong leadership, public speaking, organizational, multi-tasking and project management skills in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.​ The candidate must be able to speak to technical and non-technical personnel alike and exude extensive technical knowledge of multiple subject areas. ​ This position also functions as the team leader and integrator across DPS, GMDS and production for all technology components of the innovation works stream and will be responsible for successfully guiding key innovation standards, tools and methodologies and must be capable of managing strong vendor relations, community development and managing key client communication streams

 

The position reports directly to the executive Innovations Director with a SME line to the Executive Technology Director for the Detroit Office.

 

Job Duties:

  • A passion for building top-of-the-line web applications.
  • Desire to integrate latest and innovative technologies into projects.
  • Manage critical thinking and provide leadership in design, delivery, and support of all online products, sites and application innovation
  • Work with project managers and tech leads to accurately evaluate project scope and budgets and working with the ETD assign internal or external resources as required
  • Assess hosting requirements and deployment strategy of current and future sites/​apps/​widgets
  • Creates and monitors the set of policies that establish standard coding practices, deployment frameworks, tools, and methodology
  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with other departments, with whom work must be coordinated or interfaced
  • Strategic thinking about future direction of innovation and how the innovation work stream may integrate with GMDS platform
  • Continually lead and mentor

Qualifications:

  • 10+​ years of complex software engineering experience in progressively challenging roles
  • 5+​ years coding experience in Java or .​NET, including proven skill sets in server and client side programming
  • Experience with web frameworks such as: Struts, WebWork, Spring, .​NET
  • Experience in Web/​Internet technology, HTML, XML, XSLT, JavaScript, JSON, AJAX, SOAP
  • Deep understanding and practical real-world experience with high volume, distributed and web/​browser technologies
  • Experience with OO Analysis and Design, UML, knowledge of software methodologies and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver through entire lifecycles
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working in an agency environment with cross-functional teams from multiple departments
  • Experience designing and managing large-scale architectures, distributed systems with emphasis on performance and scalability
  • Systematic thinking skills.​ Able to deal with novel problems from different perspectives and from different levels of abstraction.​  Able to work in an agency environment with personnel with differing perspectives and priorities.
  • Strong work experience in architecting, designing and building enterprise scale web platforms
  • Experience in performing requirements gathering & technical specifications driving the results to a SOW, budgetary estimates or overall project plan.
  • Strong data modeling and data architecture skills, including data mapping and data migration.
  • Experience with integrating systems using web services or other integrations technologies.
  • Strong project management skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Must be comfortable in an agency environment
  • Experience with highly available production environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of one or more of the following: PHP, Flex/​Flash, CSS, Ruby on Rails, Java/​JSP, SOAP
  • Experience with content management concepts, principles and best practices
  • Degree in computer science or related experience preferred
  • Preferably comes from an cutting edge web organization or responsible for driving innovation/​technology strategy
